Tarator (Walnut-Garlic Dip)

Break stale bread into pieces and soak in water for 5 minutes. Squeeze out excess water.

Crush walnuts in a mortar or pulse in a food processor, leaving some coarse texture.

Crush garlic with salt in a mortar until it forms a paste.

Combine crushed walnuts, soaked bread, and garlic paste in a bowl.

Add vinegar or lemon juice and stir. Add water gradually to reach a thick sauce-like consistency.

Add most of the olive oil and mix thoroughly.

Transfer to a serving plate, drizzle with remaining olive oil, garnish with walnut pieces, and serve cold.
